Journal of Research in Weed Science

For journals, the following publication policies are applied by Sami Publishing Company (SPC) and follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Ethics and satisfaction

If the editors and reviewers of the journal reach the point that the research conducted based on ethical standards in the research has not been conducted or reported, the submitted work will be rejected.

The basis of the relationship between the authors and the publication is based on the issues of publication and research ethics, especially regarding the criteria of authorship, the prohibition of simultaneous submission of works to more than one journal, the prohibition of plagiarism, the prohibition of scientific manipulation of images, the prohibition of mutual interests between reviewers and new authors and compliance with research ethics standards are aware; Therefore, in cases of suspicion of misbehavior and violation, the guidelines of COPE and its standards are followed, and when necessary, the opinion of COPE is asked in relation to ambiguous positions.

Peer Review

Sami Publishing Company (SPC) follows the double-blind peer-review procedure for submissions of all manuscripts to its journals, except for a selected number of patent journals where the double-blind review is followed.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare all mutual interests at the time of submitting their work in the submission letter as well as in the "conflict of interest" section of the electronic file of their article or by e-mail to the editor of the publication at the same time as submitting the article. If the authors do not have any mutual interests with the publication, this statement should be included: "We have no conflicts of interest to disclose."

Acknowledgments

Those who have been influential in carrying out a research work, but do not meet the criteria of creativity, are acknowledged and thanked in the "acknowledgments" section by mentioning their name and type of participation and presence. It is the responsibility of the authors to obtain the consent and approval of everyone whose name is mentioned in the "acknowledgments" section, and the inclusion of names of persons in the acknowledgments section should not be done with the aim of increasing the scientific credibility of the article or influencing the editors and reviewers. In this case, the publication is allowed to return the article to the author for correction and reject it if the authors do not take appropriate action within the set deadline.

Financial and material support is also clearly mentioned in the acknowledgment section. It is necessary to report the sources of material and spiritual assistance and various other support in the creation of the submitted work, including funds paid by contributors, institutions or commercial sources, if any consulting fees and financial funds paid directly to researchers under the title of fees and research fees for producing articles should also be stated in this section.

The cooperation of universities, research and educational centers, libraries, archives, physical and digital document storage centers, collectors and their officials is discussed in this department.

Authors' information

The details of the authors of the manuscript, including their first and last names and their scientific organizational affiliation to research and academic institutions, are published by the journals. Some authors have a multipart name, middle name, or surname, or some do not have a middle name, or part of their name or surname was mistakenly published as their middle name in another journal in the past. The policy of the journal is to publish the author's information, including the name, suffixes and name prefixes, along with scientific organizational affiliations, in the same way as the corresponding author has recorded when sending the manuscript to the journal. In order to ensure the correctness of the creator's information and to prevent errors in their spelling and writing in the publication, and to eliminate the need to double-check the names on the threshold of the publication of the manuscript, as well as to insert corrections after publication, it is necessary for the corresponding author and sending the manuscript. At the time of sending the manuscript to the publication, carefully observe and confirm the way of writing and displaying the authors' names in the publication system. This action will include checking and verifying how to display and retrieve the authors' information in the databases, so it is necessary to be careful. Based on this, it is the responsibility of writing the correct spelling and matching the names of the authors with them. 

Change of author

The change in the authors of the manuscript after the submission of the article (including changing the order of their mention, or reducing and increasing the authors) must be approved by all authors, but the modification of the authors' profile without changing the role and order of its mention is done by the corresponding author. Authors must agree on the order of names among themselves and this is not related to the publication. The author responsible for the correspondence makes the changes in the system of the journal along with an explanation to the editor of the journal. According to the guidelines (COPE), the scientific journal receives written or electronic approval from all authors at its discretion. In this confirmation, all authors agree to the desired changes in the names submitted with the article or the names of a published article. The aforementioned confirmation is received by each author independently of his email introduced in the article or in writing and email. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the corresponding author to assure the journal that all authors agree with the changes to be made. If there is a disagreement among the authors regarding their names and a satisfactory agreement is not reached, the authors must find a solution by collaborating and consulting with their institutions. As a specific principle, the resolution of the authors' disputes is outside the responsibility of the editor and the members of the scientific journal.

ORCID

In this journal, it is necessary to declare and insert ORCID for authors. At the same time, it is necessary to declare ORCID for the people who are selected as reviewers for the peer review process of the work submitted to the scientific journal by the editor.

Citations

In this journal, research articles and case studies and others (including reviews and review articles) must be accompanied by valid documents such as manuscripts and documents or their valid digital content or live scientific sources including interviews with experts and experts or written sources that are valid. They are to be relied upon and cited in confirming and strengthening scientific claims and assumptions accepted by the scientific community. The validity of these sources can be criteria such as mentioning it in other scientific studies or publishing it in academic scientific journals, but it is not limited to these cases and the criteria accepted by scientific experts are of interest.

Behaviors such as excessive and inappropriate self-referencing or the concerted effort of creators for group self-referencing are prohibited and will be dealt with severely.

Authors' citation requirements when writing articles are as follows:

• For any phrase in the article that relies on external sources of information (that is, what does not originate from the creator's new and obscure thought and is not from axioms or general knowledge and does not need to be cited), a valid source or sources must be cited.
• Authors are prohibited from citing second-hand sources and retelling and secondary reporting and non-scientific sources. For example: authors should refer to and cite the original work instead of a review article that reports on an original work.
• Authors must be sure that in their citations, trustworthiness and accuracy have been observed in the report (which means that they must make sure that the cited source supports the content mentioned in their article and that the content of the cited works is out of scope) The seriousness of its authors, as understood by the majority of scholars, should be avoided.)
• Authors should avoid citing sources that they do not have or have not read.
• From an ethical point of view, authors should not cite works published by themselves or their friends, colleagues, or institution if there are equivalent or superior sources.
• Authors should not cite only articles published in a particular country or deliberately refrain from citing articles from a particular country.
• Authors should not support a research hypothesis, more than the conventional amount of scientific sources, and should not cite an unusual and excessive number of sources to prove it.
• It is better and more correct for authors to cite sources that have been peer-reviewed before.
• Citing non-documentary and non-scientific advertising and media content and virtual space in articles is prohibited.

Double publication

The manuscripts that are sent to this publication must be original and arising from the thoughts and pen of the authors of the article, and have the characteristics of originality, and they must not be partially or completely under review by the editors or another journal when they are sent to this journal. If the journal is informed of such a violation, the manuscripts will be rejected immediately.

If there is a suspicion that the received content is overlapping or repetitive in the form of an manuscript, the journal contact the authors to clear up the ambiguity in a detailed and written manner and to express their opinion clearly. It is the duty of the authors to announce any possible overlaps to the journal and send the documents in the form of additional files to the main manuscript's appendix to the editor when submitting the article. Any published manuscript that overlaps with the article should be mentioned and cited. Any published or unpublished article that is cited in this regard or related to the evaluation of the editor or referees, should be made available to the journal if requested by the editor by the corresponding author. The scientific journal reserves the right to examine and determine the assignment case by case in manuscripts that are suspicious, overlap or duplicate.

As a general rule, a manuscript submitted to a scientific journal should not have been officially published in other scientific journals.

Plagiarism Prevention

Sami Publishing Company (SPC) uses the iThenticate software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts. allows an overall similarity of 20% for a manuscript to be considered for publication. If the similarity level is above 20%, the manuscript is returned to the author for paraphrasing the text and citing the original source of the copied material.

Plagiarism in Published Manuscripts

Published manuscripts which are found to contain plagiarized text are retracted from the journal’s website after careful investigation and approval by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. A ‘Retraction Note’ as well as a link to the original article is published on the electronic version of the plagiarized manuscript and an addendum with retraction notification in the particular journal.

Copyediting and Proofs

Manuscripts must be written in good English in a clear and correct style in order to maintain uniformity throughout the text. Manuscripts submitted are copyedited before they are published.

Appeals and Complaints

Generally, the editorial decisions are not reverted. However, authors who think that their manuscript was rejected due to a misunderstanding or mistake may seek an explanation for the decision. Appeals must give sound reasoning and compelling evidence against the criticism raised in the rejection letter. A difference of opinion as to the interest, novelty, or suitability of the manuscript for the journal will not be considered as an appeal. The Editor-in-Chief and other relevant editors will consider the appeal and the decision thereafter taken by the journal will be deemed final. Acceptance of the manuscript is not guaranteed even if the journal agrees to reconsider the manuscript, and the reconsideration process may involve previous or new reviewers or editors and substantive revision.

Copyright

Editors/Authors who contribute in a SPC’s Journal/eBook will transfer copyright to their work to Sami Publishing Company (SPC). Submission of a manuscript to the respective journals implies that all editors/authors have read and agreed to the content of the copyright letter.

Open Access plus (Subscription Journals)

Accepted articles can be published online for free open access. Open access publishing provides maximum dissemination of the article to the largest audience. All authors will be asked to indicate whether or not they wish to pay to have their paper made freely available on publication.

Ethical Approval of Studies and Informed Consent

For human or animal experimental investigations, it is a prerequisite to provide a formal review and approval, or review and waiver, by an appropriate institutional review board or ethics committee, which should be documented in the paper. For investigations undertaken on human subjects, the manner in which the informed consent was obtained from the study participants (i.e., oral or written) should be stated in the Methods section.

Authors are encouraged to obtain patient consent when they use confidential case material. Consent is not necessary in the case of very brief case vignettes which do not contain identifying information or if the case material is disguised sufficiently to prevent identification of the patient.

In obtaining consent, the author(s) should discuss the purpose(s) of publication, the possible risks, and benefits to the patient and the patient's right to withhold or withdraw consent. In the case of a minor patient, consent should be obtained from the parent(s) or guardian(s).

Standard Protocol on Approvals, Registrations, Patients Consents & Animal Protection

All clinical investigations must be conducted according to the Declaration of Helsinki principles. The authors must comply with the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (www.icmje.org) with regard to the patient’s consent for research or participation in a study. Patients' names, initials, or hospital numbers must not be mentioned anywhere in the manuscript (including figures). Editors may request that authors provide documentation of the formal review and recommendation from the institutional review board or ethics committee responsible for oversight of the study.

Article Withdrawal

Articles in Press (articles that have been accepted for publication or published as E-pub Ahead of Schedule but which have not been formally published with volume/issue/page information) that include errors, or are determined to violate the publishing ethics guidelines such as multiple submission, fake claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data or the like, may be “Withdrawn” from the journal. Withdrawal means that the article files are removed and replaced with a PDF stating that the article has been withdrawn from the journal in accordance with BSP Editorial Policies.

Article Retraction

Published articles (with volume/issue/page information) which may contain infringements of professional ethical codes, such as multiple submissions, bogus claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data or the like are retracted.

• A retraction note titled “Retraction: [article title]” signed by the authors and/or the Editor-in-Chief is published in the paginated part of a subsequent issue of the journal and listed in the contents list.
• In the electronic version, a link is made to the original article.
• The online article is preceded by a screen containing the retraction note. It is to this screen that the link resolves; the reader can then proceed to the article itself.
• The original article is retained unchanged with a watermark on the PDF indicating on each page that it is “retracted.”
• The HTML version of the document is removed.

Redundant (multiple) publication/ Re-publication

Abstracts and posters of conferences, results presented at meetings (for example, to inform investigators or participants about findings), results databases (data without interpretation, discussion, context or conclusions in the form of tables and text to describe data/information where this is not easily presented in tabular form) are not considered prior publication.

Authors who wish to publish translations of the articles that have been published elsewhere should ensure that they have appropriate permission(s), indicate clearly that the material has been translated and re-published, and indicate clearly the original source of the material. The Editor-in-Chief may request copies of related publications if he/she is concerned about overlap and possible redundancy.
